Is Discipline the Key to Creativity?
I’ve been working on this 30-Day Challenge for just over a week now, and I’m very happy with the results so far. This little blog has gotten a lot more traffic than normal (hey, going from 3 to 15 hits per day is still a 500% increase!), I’ve gotten some really positive feedback from friends, classmates, and family, and I can definitely feel the benefits of just practicing...

Big Corporations: Y U No Use Social Media?
Apparently, social media use among major corporations is on the decline. According to a new study, only about 60% of Fortune 500 companies use Twitter and/or Facebook to further brand interaction… and even more surprising, only 25% of the Fortune 500 maintain a company blog. Why have big brands seemingly given up on social media?
Lack of immediate returns. It’s the question every...

Loyalty Comes at a Price. $50k, Specifically.
Business students are all too familiar with an often-quoted statistic indicating something along the lines of “each of you will have an average of 7 different careers during your lifetime.” I don’t know where or how this figure came to be, but I have a feeling that it was just sort of made up by an Organizational Behavior professor fifteen years ago when he or she noticed that...

Want to Get Lucky? Be Good and Loud.
A grungy post-it note with a Sharpie’d-on message has been taped to my desk for four years now, reminding me every day that “You create your own life.”
My dad, full of wisdom and admirer of quippy truisms, has been saying for years that “luck is where opportunity meets preparedness.”
I’m a strong believer that each of us are in control of the paths our lives...

Why Do B-Schools Still Teach The Famed 4P's Of... →
Brands don’t need to use traditional promotion to be successful anymore. Place in irrelevant in an e-commerce world. Price is increasingly dictated by the world’s largest free market, the internet. So where does that leave us?
“The only way to increase the value of your brand is to increase the value of you product.”
Bottom line? There’s only one P worth worrying...

Forget Location-Based Commercials. It's the...
Local is widely-touted as the current “it” thing in the digital advertising revolution. Our mobile toys now have the capability to let brands feed us location-based offers, targeted ads as we walk down the street, and real-time promotions or discounts. But does this view of the mobile and digital future of advertising even make sense?
According to Facebook brand experience manager...
Create of the Day: The 30-Day Challenge Begins
This is an exciting post. Today marks day #1 of my personal 30-Day Challenge to post a brief entry on branding, digital media, or advertising here on Create & Consume every day. I have my good friend and MBA classmate Angela Mikolajewski to thank for the inspiration. Here’s our exchange from earlier today that inspired this little experiment:
@angelamikol: My 30-day challenge: Tweet...

Create of the Day: Qwiki Presentations
We’ve all lost a few hours here and there to the endless minutiae (both informative and frivolous) of Wikipedia. But new website Qwiki turns the eye-straining experience of reading what is arguably mankind’s greatest collaborative effort into a pleasantly-narrated visual tour of any topic imaginable. It takes literally seconds to generate a high-quality presentation that’s ready...

DC Comics: Rebranding en Masse
This month, DC Comics relaunched all 52 of their ongoing properties. And while I’m not a big comic book fan beyond the occasional piece of film inspiration, the way “The Killing Joke” was a basis for Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight,” I find DC’s decision fascinating and straight up gutsy from a branding standpoint.
The massive relaunch incorporates...
